Lee (Xinyuan Li) is a Los Angeles–based Set and Lighting Designer. He holds dual M.F.A. degrees in Scenic and Lighting Design from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and earned his B.A. in Lighting Design from Shanghai Theatre Academy in China. Lee is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Pomona College and is a member of George Tsypin Opera Factory Studio and James F. Ingalls Lighting Studio. He has also taught at Occidental College and UC Riverside.

Selected design credits include Just Like Us, Mascogos, Level Up! (Latino Theater Company); Dido of Idaho (Echo Theater Company); Two Stop & Pang Spa (EST/LA & Chalk Rep Theatre); American Fast (Constellation Stage & Screen); A Little Night Music, Copenhagen, What If If Only & Air, Mlima's Tale (Burning Coal Theatre Company); The Postman, Jigokuhen, and the Shanghai Jazz Music Festival in China, among others.

As a Studio Assistant, Lee has collaborated on productions including The Gambler and One Morning Turns into an Eternity at the Salzburg Festival in Austria, Beatrice di Tenda at the Paris Opera Bastille, The Art of Fugue at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, The Great Qin in Xi’an, China, Monochromatic Light (Afterlife) at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, and The Seagull and Once Before I Go in Ireland.

Lee’s work has been recognized with the LA Theatre Bites Best Lighting Award (2024 & 2025), Cultural Voice of North Carolina Best Scenic Design (2023 & 2024), and Chatham Life & Style Best of Triangle Theatre Outstanding Scenic Design (2022 & 2023).
